Pitru Dosh: Rahu vs. Ketu – Understanding the Karmic Burden & Powerful Remedies

Everything comes down to the family.
What is family? Why are you born in a specific family?

Because the quality of karma that you have from your past births is matching with the quality of karma of the family in which you are born. Now, there are exceptions when you don’t gel with your family, and you move out and become a part of some other family whose quality of karma, whose quality of thoughts, match with yours.

So family need not be limited to only blood relation. Many times I have personally seen that people are born in a specific family, but they move out and become more aligned to some other family who match with their thought frequencies and their karma.

The reason I am saying this is because Pitru Dosha is connected with family.
Pitru means ancestors.
The mistakes of your ancestors come to haunt you, and you have to clear them by your own positive karma.

Now, Pitru Dosha is caused when there is a conjunction either with Rahu or Ketu—when Sun or Saturn or some other planets are with Rahu or Ketu. In this first part, I have explained what happens if Pitru Dosha is caused by a specific conjunction with Rahu, and what it means if it is caused by Ketu. You have to understand that both Rahu and Ketu, when they conjunct with Sun or Saturn or any other planet, definitely cause Pitru Dosha—but there is a difference. That difference I have explained in this first part.

In the second part, I will talk about all the conjunctions and placements that signify Pitru Dosha in your kundali—and the remedies for it.

In India, it has become a very common trend that if you have Pitru Dosha, you should go somewhere and do a puja—and you end up spending ₹20,000–₹40,000. But all of this is not necessary. There are specific remedies that you can do which are not expensive.

As I always say, the most beautiful things are not expensive—
Love is not expensive. God is not expensive. Truth is not expensive.
All these things are simple.
God is simple. Love is simple. Truth is simple. Simple has it.

But the mind has a tendency to make things complicated.

Pitru Dosha by Rahu

Pitru Dosha occurs when ancestral karmic debts remain unresolved and forefathers’ unfulfilled desires, mistakes, or negative karmas continue affecting future generations. Both Rahu and Ketu are linked to past life karma, but they create Pitru Dosha in different ways when they join planets like SunMoonJupiter, or Saturn in certain houses.

How Rahu Causes Pitru Dosha:

Rahu represents desires, illusions, and karmic debts from past lives. When Rahu joins important planets like Sun, Moon, or Jupiter, it indicates ancestors who had strong unfulfilled material desires—wealth, power, family success—and couldn’t find peace after death. Their unfulfilled cravings remain attached to the lineage, causing:

  • Constant financial struggles despite hard work
  • Unstable career, frequent failures, or legal issues
  • Recurring family conflicts or broken relationships
  • Separation from father
  • Mental stress, anxiety, or addictions
  • Difficulties in childbirth or strained relations with children
  • Blocked spiritual progress and attraction to negative energies

Key Rahu Conjunctions Indicating Pitru Dosha:

  1. Rahu + Sun (Surya Grahan Dosha)
    • Father’s lineage curse
    • Ego clashes, lack of paternal blessings
    • Career issues and government-related difficulties
  2. Rahu + Moon (Chandra Grahan Dosha)
    • Mother’s lineage curse
    • Mental instability, emotional detachment
    • Conflicts in family, maternal health issues
  3. Rahu + Jupiter
    • Spiritual and financial karma blockage
    • Distorted beliefs, dishonesty, unethical behavior
    • Financial downfall

Rahu House Placement:

  • Rahu in the 9th House
    • Strongest indicator of Pitru Dosha
    • Blocks ancestral blessings, causes repeated struggles in career, education, and family life

Remedies for Rahu-Related Pitru Dosha:

  1. Light a mustard oil lamp under a peepal tree on Saturdays
  2. Offer water to the Sun (Surya Arghya) daily
  3. Chant Vishnu Mantra 108 times morning and evening using a spatik japamala:
    Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya
  4. Donate at least 1 liter of groundnut oil every Saturday in Lord Hanuman temple
  5. Read Vishnu Purana and Hari Vansh Purana daily
  6. Wear 9 Mukhi Rudraksha in a black thread or silver chain for peace and prosperity

Pitru Dosha by Ketu

Ketu represents detachment, spiritual depth, and unresolved past life karmas. When Ketu joins key planets, it shows ancestors who were spiritually unfulfilled, neglected duties, or had unnatural deaths.

Effects of Ketu-Related Pitru Dosha:

  • Detachment from family, isolation, or broken bonds
  • Repeated health issues, unexplained illnesses, sudden accidents
  • Difficulty in having children or troubled relationships with offspring
  • Spiritual confusion, fear, anxiety, and a sense of not belonging
  • Recurring losses in career due to unseen forces

Rahu-related Pitru Dosha impacts material growth.
Ketu-related Pitru Dosha impacts emotional and mental well-being.

Key Ketu Conjunctions Indicating Pitru Dosha:

  1. Ketu + Sun

    • Excellent for spiritual detachment if the person is walking the spiritual path
  3. Ketu + Jupiter

    • Improper use of Dharma in past lives
    • Difficulty in education and misguided beliefs

  • Ketu in 1st House (Ascendant):
    • Burden of ancestral karma affecting life direction
  • Ketu in 5th House:
    • Delayed childbirth, issues with children, karmic burden from past
  • Ketu in 9th House:

Secret and Simple Remedy: Feeding Crows

The most significant and secret remedy to overcome Pitru Dosha is:

Feed curd and rice to crows with love and respect.

The more you feed crows, the more you reduce Pitru Dosha effects.

A crow may be black in color, but if you observe closely, it is one of the most intelligent birds. Scientists now say that after human beings, it is the crow that has the highest level of consciousness. That’s why, in our Hindu tradition, we feed crows after someone dies. We wait for the crow to come and eat. If it does, we believe that the soul has attained Gati—a step forward in its journey after life.

Lord Shani also loves crows.
That is why I say to you—whenever you see a crow, fold your hands. Feed them. Honor them. For they carry a deep, sacred connection to the ancestral realm.

You now have the most secret key:
Feed the crows. Every day.

Enough for now. Love you all.
I’ll be back with the second episode soon.
Jai Sri Ganesha. Jai Guru.

FAQs : Pitra Dosha Effects and Remedies

1. What is Pitra Dosha in astrology and how is it formed?
In Acharya Addittya Tamhankar’s view, Pitru Dosha signifies the unresolved karmic debts of ancestors—mistakes, unmet desires, or unfinished business that subtly influence the present lineage. It arises when Rahu or Ketu form a conjunction with key planets such as the Sun, Moon, Jupiter, or Saturn in one’s horoscope. This karmic imprint reflects ancestral energies that remain active in the family line and express themselves through the native’s life experiences, indicating a spiritual debt carried forward.

2. What are the common effects of Pitra Dosha on families?
According to Acharya Addittya Tamhankar When Pitru Dosha is triggered, families may experience a range of challenges depending on whether Rahu or Ketu is involved. With Rahu, ancestral yearning for material gains can manifest as repeated financial difficulties, unstable careers, family conflicts, legal troubles, mental stress, or strained relationships with children. In contrast, Ketu-induced Pitru Dosha tends to foster emotional alienation, isolation, inexplicable health issues, fear or spiritual confusion, and recurring career setbacks—reflecting a lineage burdened by emotional or spiritual incompletion.

3. How do Rahu and Ketu influence Pitra Dosha?
Acharya Addittya Tamhankar explains that although both Rahu and Ketu are linked to past-life karma, they impact Pitru Dosha differently. Rahu embodies unfulfilled material desires from ancestors—when it conjoins with significant planets, it signifies a lineage haunted by unachieved ambitions and worldly cravings, thereby leading to disruptions in career, finances, and familial harmony. Conversely, Ketu symbolizes a lack of closure in spiritual duties or emotional bonds. Its conjunctions indicate ancestral patterns of abandonment, emotional detachment, or unresolved spiritual lessons, manifesting as instability and inner disquiet in the current generation.

4. What remedies are recommended for Pitra Dosha removal?
Acharya Addittya Tamhankar advocates simple yet potent remedies tailored to whether Rahu or Ketu causes the Dosha. For Rahu-related Pitru Dosha, one should light a mustard oil lamp under a Peepal tree on Saturdays, offer Surya Arghya (water) to the Sun daily, chant the Vishnu Mantra (“Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya”) 108 times with a spatik japamala, donate groundnut oil on Saturdays at a Hanuman temple, read the Vishnu Purana and Hari Vansh Purana, and wear a 9-Mukhi Rudraksha on black thread or silver. For Ketu-related Pitru Dosha, remedies include ancestral prayers during Amavasya and Shraddha Paksha, chanting “Om Namah Shivaya” 108 times daily with a Rudraksha mala, performing Shiva Abhishek on Mondays with water, milk, and honey, donating black sesame seeds, blankets, or wall clocks in Hanuman temples or to the needy, offering water to Peepal and Banyan trees, and wearing a 10-Mukhi Rudraksha. Above all, Acharya Addittya Tamhankar emphasizes the most sacred and powerful remedy—feeding curd and rice to crows daily—with love and respect.

5. Can Pitra Dosha cause delays in marriage and career?
Acharya Addittya Tamhankar explains that Pitru Dosha often correlates with delays and blockages in critical areas of life such as marriage and career. Rahu’s influence may lead to persistent financial and professional instability, strained relationships, and legal challenges—hindering one’s progress in both personal and professional spheres. Ketu’s involvement can bring emotional detachment, misunderstanding, unexplained health issues, or accidents that disrupt life’s momentum, including delays in childbirth or trouble forming dependable relationships. These patterns, as highlighted by Acharya Addittya Tamhankar, underscore the subtle yet impactful ways ancestral imbalances interfere with modern life trajectories.

6. How do astrologers identify Pitra Dosha in a horoscope?
Acharya Addittya Tamhankar explains that astrologers detect Pitru Dosha by pinpointing specific planetary conjunctions—in particular, instances where Rahu or Ketu align with powerful planets like the Sun, Moon, Jupiter, or Saturn, especially in sensitive houses such as the 1st, 5th, 9th, or 10th. For example, Rahu conjoined with Sun indicates paternal lineage issues, Rahu with Moon suggests maternal disturbances, while Ketu in the 5th house may signal difficulties with children. The presence of such configurations, as Acharya Addittya Tamhankar highlights, offers a direct lens to ancestral karmic burdens requiring attention and healing.

7. Which rituals or pujas are performed for Pitra Dosha remedies?
Acharya Addittya Tamhankar outlines accessible rituals to ease ancestral karmic weight. For Rahu-based Dosha, lighting a mustard oil lamp under a Peepal tree and offering water to the Sun (Surya Arghya) are key ceremonial actions. For Ketu-linked Dosha, ancestral prayers during Amavasya and Shraddha Paksha—and visiting a Shiva temple for Abhishek with water, milk, and honey—are central practices. In both cases, offerings such as oil, sesame seeds, or essential items at temples or to those in need reinforce the spiritual healing. And above all, the heartfelt act of feeding crows daily with curd and rice stands out as a simple, sacred ritual deeply rooted in ancestral honoring.
