Pitru Paksha 2025 Dates, Rituals, Mantras & Remedies Explained

Namaste.

Pitru Paksha has begun. It is important to note that these 15 days of Pitru Paksha are very, very auspicious. I have personally seen that many people who are waiting for some opportunities. All those came during this magical period of 15 days, Pitru Paksha. So I appeal to you that come out of that old school thought that Pitru Paksha is a bad period or inauspicious period. You can definitely buy new clothes, you can definitely sign important documents, and you can do all those things that usually you do or you want to do, such as booking a new car or booking a new home. These 15 days are the days when your ancestors come and they are your ancestors, your forefathers. So how can this period be inauspicious? How can you say that this period is bad? It is not bad. It is your mindset that you need to change. So these 15 days are very special days, and many of you will find solutions to your problems during this 15 days itself. I have specifically revealed what you should do, what kind of rituals you should do during these 15 days. I have also given another alternative that you can do if you are not able to do the regular religious rituals.

Pitru Paksha literally means the period dedicated to our ancestors. You are not just an individual walking this earth. You are the living sum total of your forefathers and foremothers. Whether you love or dislike your parents, the undeniable truth is that their DNA and the DNA of your great grandparents flows within you. It is imprinted not only in your physical body, but also in certain qualities, tendencies and thought patterns you carry. After studying thousands of horoscopes, I have come to a profound realization. Specific conjunctions and planetary aspects in your chart are mirrored in the charts of your parents as well. It is also mirrored in the chart of your grandparents or even great grandparents. In simple words, what science refers to as DNA can also be traced astrologically through these planetary combinations. For instance, if your chart has a Saturn Rahu conjunction, you will invariably find that same conjunction in the horoscope of either a parent or a grandparent. Similarly, if you carry a Moon Jupiter conjunction, it will almost certainly reflect in one of your biological parents or great grandparents charts. This is the beauty and depth of cosmic inheritance. I share this insight so that you understand why your parents and ancestors are so significant. Hindu tradition has always recognized this ultimate truth. Which is why we observe a special 15 day period devoted entirely to our forefathers. Pitru Paksha. Pitru means ancestors, our forefathers and Paksha means a timeline of 15 days. But let me be blunt. It is utter hypocrisy to disrespect your living parents while only offering reverence to the departed ones. True homage means remembering both your ancestors in heaven as well as your parents who are still alive on earth. Always remember, the power of Pitru Paksha is immense. While the ignorant label this period as inauspicious, the wise recognize its sacred beauty. If your life feels stuck, if you are waiting for opportunities to break through, this is often the period when blessings flow, doors open and fortune shines. Why? Because from 7 September to 21 September, your ancestors descend from the higher realms to visit you. And if you have been remembering them, offering prayers or serving food to the needy in their memory, they ensure that your troubles ease and your life becomes more harmonious. If you are a good hearted soul, one who respects elders, refrains from wounding others with harsh words and remembers your lineage, then let me assure you, these 15 days of Pitru Paksha can turn out to be the most transformative days of your life. Even though this year the eclipses fall during Pitru Paksha, see it from a higher perspective. Your ancestors blessings will shield you from negative influences. The best practice therefore is to perform the Shraddha Vidhi, offering food, water and clothes in remembrance of your ancestors. You can also serve the poor and homeless, dedicating your good deeds to your lineage. Never forget, happiness is not something ready made. It flows from your own actions. I have often said if you don’t resonate with your biological family, you have every right to move away and create your own chosen family. But never hurt your parents. If you cannot connect, remain silent. Silence is less destructive than words that wound. The world is vast. Some are blessed with nurturing parents, while others unfortunately are born to abusive ones. I know this truth deeply for I interact daily with people from every corner of the world. Life is not black and white. It is painted with grey shades. The wise accept this and move on.

And so now as this auspicious period of Pitru Paksha begins from 7th September and will end on 21st September for these 15 fantastic days, this is what you can do so as to receive more blessings from your ancestors as well as become more successful during this special period of Pitru Paksha. And so, if you want to attract blessings, break barriers and move closer to your goals, then here are the five important powerful practices that you should perform during these 15 days.

1. Offer food to the needy in memory of your ancestors. A single meal served with love becomes a blessing multiplied many times over.

2. Light a diya, a lamp every evening in the south direction, which is the direction of the ancestors. While chanting your chosen mantra or simply remembering them.

3. Recite mantras. The two important Vishnu mantras. Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya And chant the other Vishnu mantra. Om Vishnave Namah. Dedicate the vibrations that you receive through this chanting to your lineage. Pray for your ancestors journey that their journey becomes more positive. And even in the heavens they get all that they wish for.

4.Avoid anger, harsh speech or disrespect toward elders. During this period, even silence is better than hurtful words.

5. Practice gratitude. Simply sitting quietly, remembering your ancestors and thanking them for your existence creates a deep karmic shift.

Always remember the significance of father, mother, grandmother, grandfather is immense. As you all know, at the age of 14 I became an orphan. So I never received the love of father or mother because I lost them very early in my life. But if you have them, and I can understand some of you may have abusive mother or abusive father. But I am saying to those who don’t have an abusive mother or father, then you please respect them. Because having a mother, a good mother and a good father is a very, very, I would say a privilege. So don’t take it for granted if you have a good mother, a loving, caring mother, or if you have a good caring father, respect them, do not offend them. As I said that paying respect to ancestors is fine, but you should also pay respect to those who are alive. And that is how you can attain balance in your life.

And now I will reveal the deeper rituals of Pitru Paksha. In our tradition, there are also specific rituals performed to pacify the souls of ancestors and dissolve karmic burdens. So I will reveal the three major Pitru Paksha rituals that you can perform. You can perform at your home by inviting a priest, or you can visit a pilgrimage place and you can perform it there. So the first ritual is the Tripindi Shraddha. It is performed to release souls of ancestors who may be stuck or restless. It helps clear deep ancestral karma and brings peace to both the departed souls and the family lineage. The second ritual that you can perform is known as Narayana Nagbali. It is a highly sacred ritual performed to free a soul from untimely death or to pacify souls who have not attained liberation. It is especially prescribed when there are issues of unnatural deaths or unresolved karmic patterns in the family. For example, if someone in your family has died because of an accident or because of any murder or because of suicide, or because of a massive heart attack, meaning if they have died suddenly, then you need to perform this Narayana Nagbali ritual so that they attain liberation, meaning their journey continues, their blocked journey opens up. And the third ritual is known as Pitru Dosh Nivaran Puja. This Pitru Dosh Nivarana Puja means removing all the troubles or the problems caused because of certain ancestral issues. So you have to do this to remove the impact of ancestral doshas, meaning the ancestral imbalances visible in your horoscope. By doing this ritual, it restores harmony, prosperity, and removes hurdles caused by unfulfilled desires of ancestors. So these three rituals, when performed sincerely, create immense positive energy and open pathways for growth, peace and prosperity. See, the logic here is very simple. If your ancestors are in trouble, then definitely your life will also not move on. You will remain stuck. There will be certain obstacles or hurdles that will come in your life, in your career, or in your relationship. So it is necessary that first you do these rituals so that your ancestors become happy. So that once they become happy, then your path on this planet also becomes much easier. You understand?

And so if for any reason you cannot perform these rituals, maybe you are living outside India, maybe you cannot find a good priest, or you do not have the means. Then you can simply donate certain items to Brahmins or priests in a temple during this Pitru Paksha period. So I will now reveal those items that you should donate in one go to a priest or a Brahmin. The first item is the ceremonial thread, also known as Janai in Marathi. It is known as Janava. In Hindi it is known as Janai. The second item is 1250 grams of black sesame seeds. The third item is 1250 grams of white rice. The fourth item is 1250 grams of Suji, that is granulated wheat. The fifth item is 2 liters of groundnut oil. The sixth item is 1250 grams of Poha which is flattened rice. The seventh item is 1250 grams of cow’s ghee. The eighth item is 1250 grams of jaggery powder. The ninth item is 7 meters of white cotton cloth mainly for dress material. The 10th item is 1250 grams of black urad dal. And the 11th item is optional. But based on the country and city you live, if you get this, it is the best. If you don’t, it is fine. You can just skip it. So the 11th item is 1250 grams of pumpkin. If you donate these 10 or 11 items to at least five Brahmins over this 15 days, nothing else needs to be done. You don’t need to perform any rituals, any of those three rituals that I mentioned earlier. Your duty is fulfilled and blessings will flow in your life. And if you live outside India or cannot find a Brahmin, then place all these items under a sacred people or banyan tree. Offer water through the palm of your right hand and chant Om Vishnave Namah. Om Vishnave Namah. Om Vishnave Namah. And remember your ancestors by taking their names. If you do not know their names, simply repeat the name of Lord Vishnu. For all ancestors ultimately merge in him.

Many years ago, a young man I knew was going through an extremely difficult phase in life. Nothing seemed to work for him. Business losses, broken relationships and constant health issues plagued him. He was intelligent, hard working and good at heart. Yet every effort ended in disappointment. One day, while speaking with me, he confessed that he had always ignored Pitru Paksha and never paid much attention to his ancestors. His relationship with his father was bitter and he carried resentment deep inside. I gently suggested that instead of clinging to anger, he should at least take one small step during the upcoming Pitru Paksha and perform Shraddha. Offer food to the needy in memory of his ancestors and sincerely pray for their peace. With hesitation, but also desperation, he finally agreed. That year, he performed the rituals with utmost sincerity, recited the sacred names of Lord Vishnu and for the first time lit a diya in the south direction for his forefathers. He even donated food and clothes to poor children, remembering his grandparents with love. And something incredible happened soon after. Within a month, the stuck court case that had been dragging on for years suddenly ended in his favor. His health began to improve and a business opportunity unexpectedly came his way through an old friend. Slowly, his life turned around. And later, with tears in his eyes, he told me, I never believed in these things, but now I know. My ancestors were waiting for me to remember them. The moment I did, they blessed me beyond measure. That is why in Hindu faith, in Hindu religion, ancestors are considered as God. That is why we say Pitru Devobhava. Pitru Devo. Devo means God. And so for us, our ancestors are no less than God. They are God. And so this is the unseen yet powerful truth of Pitru Paksha. Our ancestors never abandon us. They walk with us, unseen, yet deeply connected. And when we remember them with love, when we serve others in their memory, their blessings descend like rain upon parched earth, removing hurdles, healing wounds, and lighting the path ahead. And so, as you step into this sacred fortnight, remember, Pitru Paksha is not a ritual to be feared, but a celebration of your roots, your lineage, and the love that continues beyond lifetimes. Respect your living parents, honor your departed ancestors, and open your heart. The blessings you receive may just transform your destiny.

And so, now that I have revealed the true essence of this beautiful, divine, auspicious period of Pitru Paksha, let me emphasize on the fact that you can book a new car, you can book a new home, you can buy new clothes, or perform surgery, or sign an important document, or make major decisions during this wonderful and miraculous period of Pitru Paksha. Now, even after listening to all the insights I have shared with you, if you still want to stick to the old school thought of believing this period as inauspicious and living with a long face, then it is up to you. The wise will follow my words. Because the wise is perfectly aware that ancestors are not untouchables. They are your forefathers. And you came to this world only because of their blessings and actions. And now that I have shared with you all the greatness of this period, I will also journey to my village to perform the rituals and remember my ancestors, without whom I would not have manifested in this physical form.

Om Pitru devaya Namah Chant this Pitru mantra for 15 days, every morning, 108 times. If you are following me closely, and if you chant this mantra with consistency and faith, you will definitely see positive outcome in the days to come.

Jai Sri Ganesha. Jai Guru.
