Mrugashira is a seeker of beauty, desire, intelligence and inner growth. Mrugashira falls partly in the sign of Taurus and partly in the sign of Gemini. This itself makes Mrugashira a very fascinating nakshatra.
From Taurus it receives the love for beauty, luxury, sensuality, art, comfort and the desire to enjoy the many pleasures of this human life. And from Gemini it receives wit, humor, curiosity, intelligence, movement, communication and the urge to keep searching. So Mrugashira is never still, it is always searching, searching for beauty, searching for pleasure, searching for meaning, searching for a better experience, searching for something rare, something exotic, something that would make life feel more alive.
That is why these natives often love traveling to beautiful places. They are seekers by nature and because they are ruled by Mars, there is action, movement, restlessness and a certain sharpness in their being. Mrugashira is a nakshatra of pursuit, a nakshatra of quest, a nakshatra that says there must be something more.
Mrugashira is materialistic, talented and restlessly intelligent. Now understand this carefully, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn belong to the Artha Trikona. This angle is materialistic by nature. It understands the practical side of life. It understands money, resources, comfort, survival, success and the need to rise in the world. And because a part of Mrugashira falls in Taurus, this nakshatra is highly materialistic by nature.
But not materialistic in a foolish way, it is materialistic in an intelligent way. These natives know how to rise. Even if they are born in a poor family, they usually find a way to improve their condition.
They work, they really work hard, they strive, they search, they rise. And because Mars rules this nakshatra, they are also action oriented. They don’t merely dream, they move, they investigate, they experiment, they seek.
This makes them very good researchers, very good investigators, very good observers. They have the ability to search beneath the surface. At the same time, because Taurus belongs to Venus, they also have artistic flair.
Writing poetry, dancing, singing, cooking, all this comes naturally to many Mrugashira natives. In fact, many good cooks are born under this nakshatra. So what do you get in Mrugashira? You get intelligence, you get sensuality, you get skill, you get curiosity, you get desire, you get movement.
That is why it is a very talented nakshatra, a highly intelligent nakshatra. However, since this nakshatra is ruled by Mars, there is one more thing. Mars does not forget easily.
Mars has memory, Mars has heat, Mars has reaction. And therefore Mrugashira can also be revengeful by nature. If deeply hurt, these natives may not forgive easily.
Especially if moon is placed here and the chart is otherwise disturbed, then emotional reactions become intense. Mars gives the fire, Taurus gives sensuality. And when Mars and Venus combine, sexual desire becomes stronger.
So yes, Mrugashira is a very sexual nakshatra. If a man or woman is born with moon in Mrugashira and Mars is placed in the 7th house or 11th house or 12th house, then definitely the person may be more inclined towards seeking sexual pleasures. Such a person may go through many relationships, many affairs, or many emotional and sensual adventures.
This can happen in both men and women. Mars signifies sexual energy and moon in the Mars ruled nakshatra of Mrugashira makes those desires more fired up than otherwise. Taurus already seeks physical pleasures and physical pleasures are easier to enjoy when life is luxurious.
So moon in Mrugashira often creates a strong urge to seek a luxurious life. A girlfriend having moon in Mrugashira may not buy the old story of lovers living in a hut. She cannot imagine living in a hut.
She is born to enjoy life. She wants beauty. She wants comfort. She wants a certain standard of living. She wants to feel that life is rich, not just financially rich, but sensually rich, aesthetically rich, experientially rich. Always remember, a highly talented and intelligent person is often found to be more sexual than otherwise.
And so moon in Mrugashira often gives birth to talented, intelligent beings who by default happen to be more sexual than others. Always remember, the more sexual a person is, the more intelligence may be present as raw life force. With less sex energy, less drive exists.
Sex energy or Mars is therefore not bad, provided you do not hurt others, exploit others, manipulate others or misuse that force. Used wrongly, it becomes downfall. Used rightly, it becomes power transformation.
Moon in Mrugashira brings passion into relationships, but sometimes in the process, emotions and deeper tenderness can get lost. In simple words, passionate pleasure may come, but emotional depth may get missed. That is why some natives of this nakshatra go through repeated relationship breakups, romantic complications or intense emotional sagas.
Sometimes because of too much hunger for experience, the native may get trapped in scandal, gossip, temptation or emotional chaos. Moon is a monkey, a dangerous monkey. And when that moon, that is mind, falls in a sexual intelligent nakshatra like Mrugashira, temptations increase.
That is why in Moon in Mrugashira, you often see two extremes. On one side, a very fine person. On the other side, a person defeated by desire, by temptations.
And the truth is, both exist inside every human being. That reminds me of a beautiful story.
There was a young famous painter. He decided to create a truly great portrait, a lively portrait full of joy of God, a portrait of a man whose eyes radiated eternal peace. And so he set out to find someone whose face reflected that eternal light. The artist roamed from village to village, from jungle to jungle in search of his subject.
And at long last, he came across a shepherd with shining eyes, with a face and features that held the promise of some celestial home. One look was enough to convince him that God was present in this young man. The artist painted a portrait of the young shepherd.
Millions of copies of the portrait were made, and it sold far and wide. People felt great gratitude just being able to hang the picture on their walls. After a spell of some 20 years, when the artist had grown old, he decided to paint another portrait.
His experience had shown him that life is not all goodness. The devil also exists in man. The idea of painting a picture of a devil persisted.
If he wanted to fulfill this project, then the two pictures would complement each other, would show the complete man. He had already done a painting of godliness. Now he wanted to portray the devil.
He sought a man who was not a man, but a devil. He went to gambling dens, to bars, and to madhouses. The subject had to be full of hell’s fire.
His face had to show all that is evil, ugly, and sadistic. After a long search, the artist finally met a prisoner in a jail. The man had committed seven murders and had been sentenced to be hanged in a few days.
Hell was evident in the man’s eyes. They spouted hate. His face was the ugliest one one could possibly hope to find.
The artist began to paint him. When he had completed the portrait, he brought out his earlier picture and set it by the side of the new paint for contrast. It was difficult to assess which was better from an artistic point of view.
Both were marvelous. He stood staring at both and then he heard a sob. He turned and saw the chained prisoner crying.
The artist was shocked. He asked, My friend, why are you crying? Do these pictures disturb you?
The prisoner said, I have been trying to hide something from you all this time. But today I am lost.
You obviously do not know that the first picture is also of me. Both portraits are of me. I am the same shepherd you met 20 years ago in the hills.
I cry for my downfall in the last 20 years. I have fallen from heaven to hell, from god to devil. This is how life of human beings is.
At one point, you are the good shepherd, and at the other end, you also become the terrible devil. Every man swings between these two extremes. Man can attain to either of these extremes, but most people are inclined towards the infernal.
Those fortunate few who aspire to the eternal, who let godliness grow in them, are rare. Very, very rare. Nelson Mandela, therefore, says that I am not a saint.
A saint is a sinner who keeps trying. Very deep and beautiful words, my fellows, which only an evolved soul can understand, can relate with it. Moon in Mrigashara is a perfect example of a sinner who keeps trying.
Trying to improve, trying to progress, trying to grow within, trying to mature as a person.
Once it happened, there was a young man, and he was such a beautiful person with a golden heart. But life was too harsh on him. He lost everything. He became homeless. He was in deep pain.
He had fallen from his position. The whole world had condemned him, labelled him as a loser. While walking through the forest, he came across an old man, and the old man seemed to be someone special.
His aura, his smile. There was something about this old man. The young man bowed before the old man, and the old man smiled and said, I know your situation.
The young man was taken aback. He realized that the old man is not just an old man. He must be a master, a divine master.
The young man started crying, and the master raised him and said, There is nothing wrong in falling. In life, many times one falls. But what makes him special is when he rises every time he falls.
So do not give up. I am with you. Why you fear? The young man was touched.
A great energy started flowing within his being. He said, Master, I will go back and rise again.
And it is said that the young man went on to become the most successful man of his town. Everything is possible only if you are not willing to give up. Always remember, our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. That is also Murugashira.
Because Murugashira can make mistakes. It can fall to temptation. It can get lost in desire. But if Jupiter and Saturn are strong in the chart, then the same native rises, corrects, matures, and become wise. So moon in Murugashira can either make you wise by forcing you to learn from your mistakes, or it can make you foolish if you keep repeating the same mistake again and again and again.
To commit mistakes is not wrong. Commit as many mistakes as possible because that is how you learn. But do not commit the same mistake again and again because that makes you stupid.
Taurus emphasizes the five senses sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell. And because Murugashira begins in Taurus, these natives are very sensory beings. They can sense danger. They can smell deception. They can feel the quality of touch. They can hear what others miss to hear. They often have excellent taste and aesthetic intelligence.
But moon in Murugashira also gives a sixth sense, a kind of intuitive knowing, a natural feeling about what is coming, what is hidden, what is beneath the surface. This is why many of them are good investigators, good researchers, trackers, and seekers. They can also attain PhD because to attain PhD, you need to have good analysis skills, good research skills.
The regional name Atmaja connected to Murugashira is also beautiful. Atmaja means self originated, arising from the self or intellect. That is why intellectualism comes in abundance to Murugashira.
Moon simply fuels that intellect and makes the native even more mentally active. Taurus is not always very social, but Murugashira likes movement, activity, learning, groups, demonstrations, action. They do not like only long theories and lectures.
They want to experience. They want to test. They want to explore.
Tracking, seeking, searching, investigating, these are all Murugashira qualities. If you have a girlfriend with moon in Murugashira, she may like poetry, but only poetry is too boring for her. She wants action. She wants reality. She wants expression through movement, through touch, through nearness, through a kiss, through a hug, a gesture.
Murugashira, Chitra and Dhanishta, all three nakshatras of Mars dwell in earthy science. Mars is physical, and therefore Murugashira in Taurus strongly fires up carnal feeling and desire.
Murugashira woman is very dynamic, dashing and unbreakable. Never mess with a Murugashira woman because she may appear beautiful, soft, attractive, graceful, but within her, there is a fierce feminine shakti. She is dynamic. She is dashing. She is strong headed. She can overcome difficult situations. She can raise children on her own.
A single mother or a single mom with this placement can raise her children very nicely, single handedly. She may cry. She may feel the pain, but she does not collapse easily. She can simply walk away and create her own world rather than depend on someone who does not value her. And this is Mars in feminine form. This is not helpless femininity.
This is intelligent, mobile, self-respecting feminine power. And because Murugashira extends into Gemini also, she often has wit, humor and cleverness too. So what do you get? Beauty of Taurus, wit of Gemini, fire of Mars.
That is a formidable combination. A man or a woman born with moon in Murugashira will usually do well in society. They earn, they acquire luxuries, they rise in position and status because they are practical, aggressive and demanding. And because they want more from life.
To become successful, you need confidence. And to gain confidence, you need to test success. Confidence and success go hand in hand. Confidence breeds success. Success breeds confidence.
Confidence applied properly surpasses genius. Many people lack confidence because their inner life is weak. They have done nothing to turn inward. They do not meditate. They do not chant. They do not read holy scripture. They do not work on themselves. And then they wonder why confidence is low.
Always remember, only that man and only that woman is worthy of living who has taken the first step towards self-growth. Self-growth begins when you start turning inward. When you begin spending quality time with yourself, when you chant, when you meditate, when you observe your mind. Daily meditation promotes self-confidence, peace of mind and strong faith in God.
People want fast food remedies, but real-life solutions are not fast food. Real-life solutions require self-work. There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving and that is your own self.
Taurus loves effort. That is one of its greatest qualities. And moon in Murugashira strengthens this quality. Their slogan in life often becomes I am working on myself.
Murugashira is closely connected to moon and Lord Shiva. Murugashira is sexual, yes, and on top of that, the deity of Murugashira is Som, the moon god. And moon is also sexual by nature. I have always said that the mind is sexual by default. It is said that all the 27 nakshatras are wives of the moon.
The ancient sages also say Mercury was born from moon’s affair with the wife of Jupiter. Moon received a curse from Lord Ganesh because of immoral behavior and that curse manifested as eclipses. And yet moon is also worshipped as nourishment.
Moon is motherly. Moon gives care. Moon gives emotional nourishment. One who worships moon, one who recites the mantra of moon, receives blessings. And if you want to directly contact the boss of Lord Moon, then you must remember Somnath. Somnath means the master of moon.
And who is the master of moon? Lord Shiva. Moon is found on Lord Shiva’s head. It means Shiva has the mind under his command. So if you too want to bring your mind under your command, start worshipping Mahadeva, Lord Shiva.
Doing the 16 Somvar Vrat, meaning 16 Monday fasting, is highly beneficial. Fasting on 16 Mondays from sunrise to sunset and worshipping Lord Shiva by chanting Om Namah Shivaya, Om Namah Shivaya 108 times morning and evening can bring much blessing and much prosperity in your life.
The sacred tree connected with Mrigashira is the Ibani tree. Its wood is valuable, rare, rich, dark and beautiful. In Hindi, it is called Aab Noos. In Marathi, it is associated with dark, precious wood. If you are born with moon in Mrigashira, you may plant this tree in your garden or even keep a bonsai if possible and if it is feasible. The more lovingly you nurture this sacred plant, the more you align with the blessings of Mrigashira nakshatra.
Now I will reveal the four padas of Mrigashira because not every Mrigashira expresses itself in the same manner. It depends on the padas.
When the moon falls in the first pada of Mrigashira, the Taurus quality is very strong. This native wants beauty, pleasure, comfort and emotional security. There is a sensual charm here. Such a person may be highly attractive, artistic and physically expressive. They often love good food, beautiful surroundings, perfumes, textiles, music and bodily pleasures. But there is also strong determination here. Once they desire something, they do not let go easily. This placement can create a very passionate lover and a very persistent achiever.
When the moon moves into the second pada, material ambition becomes stronger. These people are practical, clever and very aware of value. They know how to choose quality. They know how to spot what is beautiful and what is profitable. This placement often does well in luxury business, design, finance, beauty industry, hospitality or food-related professions. Emotionally, however, they can become possessive. They want loyalty and if betrayed, they may react sharply. This is a very resourceful placement.
When the moon enters the third pada, Gemini begins to operate more strongly. This is where wit, humor, clever speech, curiosity and communication become very prominent. These natives are talkative, smart, quick-thinking and often mentally restless. They enjoy travel, conversations, new people, new ideas and playful romance. This can be an excellent placement for writers, speakers, marketers, media professionals, teachers and performers. These are the Mrigashira natives who can charm with both beauty and brains.
And when the moon falls in the fourth pada, the search becomes even more psychological and emotional. This native is still curious, still witty, still mentally active but now there is deeper emotional complexity. They may go through intense inner struggles. They may search for emotional fulfillment through people, travel, romance, ideas, spirituality or art. This placement can create a person who appears cheerful outside but is deeply searching inside. If evolved, this becomes a beautiful placement for healing, counseling, mentoring and spiritual growth. If not, it can lead to confusion, overthinking and repeated emotional dissatisfaction.
Since Mrigashira is ruled by Mars and its deeper feminine force is connected with Goddess Durga, the most beneficial remedy is devotion to Durga Maa. This nakshatra symbolizes intense feminine shakti, dynamic, courageous, enduring and self-sustaining.
That is why the mantra is very beneficial for those born with moon in Mrigashira. Chant it daily with devotion and if possible, read the Durga Saptashati every Friday evening. This is especially powerful for protection, emotional strength, courage, removal of fear and victory over inner enemies.
Now let us come to the daan, the charity, the donation remedy. For Mrigashira nakshatra, the most meaningful daan or charity is that which honours feminine strength, nourishment and protection. So you may donate red clothes or sarees to women in need, food to single mothers or struggling women, support for girl-child education, fruits, sweets or meals at a Durga temple on Fridays, masoor dal or red lentils you can donate, red flowers you can offer to Goddess Durga every Friday or Tuesday, and financial help to women who are trying to stand on their own feet. This all pleases the shakti of Mrigashira, because when you support feminine resilience in the outer world, the inner Goddess begins to support you.
You may also feed cows or offer help to travellers, seekers and students, because Mrigashira is itself a searching nakshatra. And so, I earnestly prostrate before this nakshatra of seeking beauty, movement, pleasure and inner growth. Pleasures are not wrong, but getting stuck in pleasure is wrong.
The whole essence of this sharing is not to condemn life, but to help you grow through life. Real growth is inside out. Real age is not your biological age.
Your real age is based on how many years you have spent in knowing yourself, in meditating, in chanting the name of the Holy Lord. So, focus on yourself, turn inward, let the journey inward begin. Always remember, the greatest journey is the journey within.
Jai Sri Ganesha. Jai Guru.
